Got to go to the North Rim!

From Navajo Bridge
I got the opportunity to go to the North Rim for orientation and training for work. So I can actually tell visitors what the North Rim is like, and what's over there for them to do, and to see how their operation runs. Boondoggle? Maybe. Awesome? Absolutely.

At Lee's Ferry

Ty, dabbling toes in the Colorado River

Elyssa, also couldn't pass up the chance to step in the river

Possibly one of the most intense hail storms I've been in. Got to see water in the washes!

Kaibab Squirrels are actually quite cute, and kinda weird looking. White tails.

Look! the Grand Canyon!

Me! In front of the Grand Canyon!

One of the reasons I'm not interested in camping on the N. Rim: Lightning. In the campground.

Island in the Sky!

Aptly named Island in the Sky. Can't wait to get out there and poke around.

Walhalla Glade. I'm sorry, but our ruin is way cooler.

We all tried throwing the atlatl, and Jessica showed us her metate.

less fog...

succinct, and I feel appropriate. This sign might actually deter people from marring or defacing?

Blurry, but that's my halo! Spectre Drocket?

On top of Angel's Windo

Angel's Window

My new favorite viewpoint- Imperial Point.

They have a kickass sign.

This is where they release condors!

I love moss.

another sunset

Chocolate Peppermint cupcakes

The ten day forecast is looking good, knock on wood! We're probably going to get showers a couple days before, but come Monday it should just be partly cloudy or mostly sunny. We're not nervous, no....

These are not on the menu- I put a little peppermint schnapps into the frosting. These were for the bachelorette party. Not too bad...

Weird things happen here.

Grand Canyon Fire Department hasn't lost a foundation yet!
I kinda felt like a jackass taking pictures of this, but how often do you get to see something catch on fire? I was doing crowd control on this one, people didn't seem to think that an rv filled with a tank of gasoline and a propane tank could possibly harm them. By the way, no one was harmed, just an RV and everything that was in it, a couple of trees next to the rv, and a trash can. This happened a week or two ago. Day before yesterday a guy fell off the rim and was located 200 feet below (It's being investigated as a suicide). The day before that 6 people got hit by lightning, one died. On the bright side, we don't really have water falls that sweep people to their doom, or grizzly bears, or avalanches.

I didn't think I would ever miss cloudy days, but they really put the drama out there. I believe that this is the thundercell that killed the German woman. I was about 25 miles away when I took this and could hear thunder. It was a scary storm.

In other news, it's almost wedding time!!!! We are some busy bees and can't wait to see everyone! Happy happy happy happy!

There's a National Park Unit 5 minutes from my home that I had no idea existed.

My overall impression of Ohio: green.
This place is approximately 5 minutes from where I grew up. I had no idea. The rangers there were kinda jerks. Oh well. Probably wouldn't work there. Dayton Aviation Heritage.
