Elk Refuge!

We took the wagon ride onto the Elk Refuge because that's what you do in the winter. It's neat to see hundreds of elk all together in one place.
The Wildlife Refuge in winter supplements the elk with alfalfa pellets. Just enough so that they don't starve.

That awkward in between stage.

mmmmm... boogers.

Jackalopes, hotspring, lakes, squatches

We were probably way too close to this bear. Silly bear.

I don't remember the name of this lake. It was near Brooks Lake on Togwotee Pass.

Because Jackalopes are awesome.

More summer stuff

Pelicans- beaks can hold more than their bellies can! This bird is pretty awesome. It's neat to see a small squadron fly over head. Squadron is one of the collective nouns for pelicans btw.

Not really sure what the creature below is- either a river otter or a musk rat.
Left: Squatch kinda likes the water.
Right: Tim loves the water.

Squatch is wearing her summer hair cut. It's not nearly as short as it was when she was in Arizona. I think we'll probably get it cut shorter next summer. I love her spotty coat.

Waterfall in Yellowstone. I don't remember the name. Sorry.
Annnnd that's the back of Carl's head.

I wish the blue heron on the right was a clearer picture, but I thought it was neat to see. They make some of the most bizarre noises.

Some more pics from last June

Jenny Lake on the left, Tim in a super sweet tuxedo tshirt. I think this was a special event, hence the tuxedo.
On the right is Hidden Falls, which flows into Jenny Lake. It is hands down the most popular hike in the park. It's a level hike, it's next to a lake, and goes to a waterfall, so uber popular.

These are from my birthday hike last June, we went up to Garnet canyon until we started to get into the snow...

And then we ran into this little fella! Birthday Bear!!!! There is a reason we carry bear spray with us. This guy wasn't aggressive, but it was a super busy trail, and it got caught between parties of hikers. Kind of a hairy situation. I wish we had a better picture, it didn't get out of the shade though.

In the spring we get some amazing moths that came through the park. I don't know what it is, but it's spectacular!

Maci came up to Jackson for a wedding and stayed with us, and we went for a nice stroll out to Leigh lake. It's a quiet hike because people need to walk a little farther to get to it, and there's not a waterfall. But it does have cool little islands.

 Lupines!!!!

I don't care if the dandelion is invasive, it made for a cute little photo. The arrowleaf balsams are everywhere, they're just so happy!
